I'm doing some research for a martial arts business, and wanted to know the target audience for a service for adult martial artists. Here's some interesting data:
In the US, there are over 30,000 martial arts schools, around 13,000 of those are in California.
In a given year, there are approximately 9.4 million adults who practice martial arts in the US. 21.7 million adults in the US have practiced some martial arts in their lifetime. 63% of those who practiced in the last year are from 18-40 years old.
In 2006, the UFC scored pay-per-view revenues of $223 million, much more than boxing and wrestling. In 2007, seven life UFC fights on Spike TV gathered more younger male viewers on cable than basketball, baseball, hockey, football, or NASCAR.
Martial artists lean towards being highly educated and relatively affluent.
